W is for Williamsburg
Williamsburg is part of Virginia’s Historic Triangle which encompasses the whole of America’s colonial history – see also J is for Jamestown and Y is for Yorktown. Colonial Williamsburg, its Historic Area, has been recreated to look exactly as it did in the 1770s, when the town served as Virginia’s capital. Staying there is like living in a great big museum.

The Glasgow Gallivanter 
You’ve been to way more Revolutionary War sites than I have, and I’m American! I’m jealous! To be fair, I did go to Williamsburg on a family vacation, and my parents gave me and my brother the choice between going to Busch Gardens or Colonial Williamsburg. As I was about 12 at the time (though I loved history even back then), the amusement park easily won out!

Love the windmill picture here Anabel. Reminds me of a lot of England as they are really popular landmarks over there but I have rarely seen any during my time here in the States. We have been to Virginia but didn’t make it as far as Williamsburg so hopefully we will get there to explore the beauty for ourselves sometimes soon.

Anabel, I have not yet gotten to Williamsburg, but we are doing a couple of North America road trips this summer, one in the southeast so maybe, maybe….

We were in Williamsburg over the summer (and Jamestown, and later D.C.) and I absolutely loved it. They did a great job keeping the area so well. The humidd heat … that was something else for this California girl used to our dry heat over here. 🙂

Oh yes, I remember that. It’s all a bit much for we Scots but if we want to see interesting places we have to put up with it!

I’ve started to really enjoy these types of places. I only ever went to one in the US and I loved it, but I think I need to go back and see more of these colonial places.

Wow that windmill looks so cool – the only windmill I’ve seen in person was in Bruges but it was so fun to photograph 🙂

We saw the windmills in Bruges too. I’ll be writing about them after the challenge is over. And there might even be some windmills sneaking into one of the remaining letters!
