In the pink with Becky
Becky at Life of B is back with her quarterly square photo challenge. This time it’s In the pink which covers any or all of:
- In the pink – in perfect condition or in good health
- Tickled pink – delighted
- Pink – the colour
I make no apologies for reposting the photo above, though you’ve not seen the square version before. It seems perfect for the occasion. When Becky and I met in Winchester earlier this year we inadvertently coordinated our outfits and became The Pink Ladies for the day. I claim extra points for covering all three criteria!
The challenge is on every day throughout September, but I’m concentrating on my Hebridean posts at the moment so shan’t have time to play along again (unless I spot something really, really enticing). However, here’s just one more image – we were moving the poetry books to a bigger space in Glasgow Women’s Library this week, and look what I found! This book is called In the pink and both it and GWL’s current events programme have distinctly pink lettering. Two out of three this time I guess, though I was tickled pink to find it.

I’m not too fond of pink (although you two look great in it)… but I do love purple, which is pink’s crazy relative.

As a male I’m curious. Do women actually like the colour pink or is it just a traditional colour for females and acceptable as such to wear?. I ask this as I like vivid colours usually, as you know, but pink has never done anything for me visually and its a hard colour to match anything with in paintings and art. Pink just stands out as being wrong somehow in any landscape designs, except in cartoons or hats/ clothes. I once knew someone with a pink car but I have to admit I always felt slightly embarrassed getting a lift and getting dropped off. Can’t think of any other colour that would have the same effect.

I never wear pastel pink but I do like vivid pink, and I like pink / red flowers, geraniums and the like. The pink / blue gender divide is quite recent, and in fact pink was more likely to be a male colour until the first half of the 20th century.

Damn! That’s flattened my just worked out presumption that women may be conditioned to ‘like’ it as it’s the colour of new born babies. Another genius light bulb moment ruined by facts. :o)

Tee hee! I did know that, but I didn’t know why till your question prompted me to check. One theory is that soldiers wore red so boys, as “little men” wore the watered down version, ie pink. It’s in Wikipedia so it must be true!

I’m currently wearing pink as well. I’m in denial that it’s September and autumn is here. In protest, I plan to wear Spring and Summer colours as long as I can.
