Advent Day 12: Fairytale of New York
On Christmas Eve 2019 we took a stroll to the nearby area of Scotstoun to view its Living Advent Calendar. Each evening in December, one more window had been illuminated. On the 24th, we got to see them all.
Number 12 – It was Christmas Eve babe, in the drunk tank… any chance to see the late, lovely, Kirsty MacColl.
Love it. Never heard that song before. Great song!

It plays every Christmas here, and there’s always a controversy about the use of the word f*ggot.

Oh, I missed that word. It is so derogatory, as so many words in our language are! Just think how things might be if people didn’t feel the need to look down at other people!

It usually gets dubbed, or some radio stations refuse to play it.

Hi Anabel – fun window to see … so true to what we imagine. Kirsty MacColl had the most beautiful voice .. such a sad end … take care – Hilary

Yes, she made singing sound so easy.

I’m not familiar with The Pogues, but enjoyed the video and the advent window tribute. So sad that she died that way and so young.

Yes, it was a shocking tragedy. One of those that I can remember where I was when I heard it (driving to Edinburgh).

Love the window and the song. Two amazing voices.

An inspired choice! I love that they didn’t just call the window Fairytale of New York but left you to work it out.

Yes; subtlety is much more fun.
