Advent Day 24: Welcome to the party, pal!

On Christmas Eve 2019 we took a stroll to the nearby area of Scotstoun to view its Living Advent Calendar. Each evening in December, one more window had been illuminated. On the 24th, we got to see them all.

Number 24 – Nakatomi Corporation: Welcome to the party, pal! I know this is a reference to the Die Hard film in which, on Christmas Eve 1988, a group of terrorists led by Hans Gruber took the Nakatomi employees hostage during their Christmas party, but I admit to being disappointed. Something a little more festive, such as a nativity scene or Santa’s sleigh, would have pleased me a lot better. But this is what we got, so all that remains is to wish you the very best for the holiday season. See you in the New Year! May it be better for us all than 2020.

  1. I confess to being a Die Hard fan (this, first one only) so I’m smiling at the window. I’d admit though it is a slightly bizarre choice.

Thanks for this lovely Advent calendar Anabel. Wishing you a safe and happy Christmas and the opportunity to go gallivanting again soon.

  2. But we got here in the end and as for disappointment – wll, it is the Covid year.

And you might like this that I had from a friend this morning: “Covid has ruined my Christmas, Brexit has ruined my future – what have i got to look forward to”?

Happy tomorrow whatever you do. See you after Boxing Day.

  3. Nakatomi meant nothing to me either, but Die Hard (the first) is a must see – for the wonderful villain that is the invention of the late lamented Alan Rickman. His first Hollywood role…
It’s now one of my favourite films.
Mind you, yesterday I watched my only film so far (this year?) – Casablanca!
And I can’t find Love Actually anywhere, but I googled and found other people have been searching too… I can watch it on iTunes if I really need it.
Oh, the window. Yeah… no thanks.
Love and best wishes for a happy Christmas and New Year, Anabel. I’ve loved gallivanting with you this year. Kept me sane (sort of).

    • I like Alan Rickman but it still wouldn’t induce me to watch Love, Actually again. Even with Colin Firth. Casablanca, though – now you’re talking! I’ve been glad to have you gallivanting along. Love and best wishes for the festive season to you too.

  4. I’m late getting my movie picks up but Die Hard is on the list. I agree with you…it should have been something….anything but that for Christmas Eve. Merry Christmas!!

  5. Hi Anabel – not my scene … but I guess some people would recognise it.

Loved seeing all the days … and sorry it’s ended – but look forward to seeing you in 2021 – here’s to a better year … stay safe and at peace – Hilary

  6. Well it’s certainly different and definitely fits with the date. I’m not one for nativity scenes and too old to believe in santa, but there have been some much better scenes than this one. It’s been a fun month following your advent calendar, thank you 😊

  7. Sorry but I dislike this one intensely, especially the ugly fat guy in the centre 😦 😦 I’m not familiar with the Die Hard films, not my thing at all, but I suppose it will mean something to someone. The Nativity scene would have been far more appropriate for this one though or, like you say, Santa’s sleigh.
