WalkingSquares: gasometer

Taken just before 7pm on a March evening this year, this image shows the Forth and Clyde Canal and one of two defunct gasometers at Temple. Two other walkers are almost lost in the dusk ahead. Given the time and the direction of travel, I guessed we must have been on our way for dinner at our friends Jayne and Mark’s house, and my diary reveals that this is correct.
Linked to Becky’s WalkingSquares.
I didn’t know there were any of these left, it takes me back to my childhood where the one in our town dominated everything.

There are two here – the other is not yet in sight. I remember when they used to store gas, but that was years ago now. I think there are at least a couple more still standing elsewhere in Glasgow.

Not everyone’s cup of tea, but they have a certain beauty of their own.
