I found the book by chance, and it’s full of the recipes my mum used to make. I’ve been itching to try a few out on T, if only to help him understand how bad my childhood culinary experiences actually were.
At the moment I’ve got it open at the Black Bun page and have realised I’m too late to make one for this Hogmanay.

I hated it too. But I wondered (as I do with many childhood foods) whether it’s the dish I hated, or just my mother’s version of it. Cooking really isn’t her superpower, and she was the queen of ingredient substitution. I’m hoping Ma Broon will help me figure this out.
