January Light: Stirling Castle

A duo of square skies seen from Stirling Castle – late afternoon and early evening sunlight. Inside the castle, there was plenty of candlelight and firelight – both artificial, but still square.

  1. Excellent photographs. I wont even comment of costs or anything (whatever they are) since it’s been too many years since I had my (young) children at Stirling Castle. .

  2. OK, I have to see this castle! I love the ceilings and am glad that the lights are fake otherwise parts of the ceiling would get blackened by the candlelight. I love the red/burgundy stenciling and the old candlelabra.

  3. Great photos. We’ve been to Stirling and did the long walk up to the castle but didn’t actually go in. It was pretty busy and I think a bit pricey for the couple of hours we had available. Maybe when we have a bit longer next time.

  4. Used to be a lot cheaper than Edinburgh Castle. Luckily, I got in for free last open day. Stirling is a cracking wee place to explore.

  5. Great photo’s Anabel, I’m just reading a book where Margaret, Henry Tudor’s sister was staying in Stirling castle when she was Scotland’s Queen. You’ve now helped me visualise where she stayed. Wonderful

  6. Seeing Stirling Castle mentioned brings back happy childhood memories when I spend summers with my cousins in Stirling and we used to ‘play’ unsupervised at the castle, which wasn’t too far from their house. I can’t imagine that happening these days!
