Advent Day 5: Five gold rings

On Christmas Eve 2019 we took a stroll to the nearby area of Scotstoun to view its Living Advent Calendar. Each evening in December, one more window had been illuminated. On the 24th, we got to see them all.
Number 5 – five gold rings: maybe not the usual interpretation! Mr T?

Not the best. But my boys loved the A team – lots of car chases and blowing up of things! 😂

No, not the best, but a clever interpretation.

Not so keen on that one. Although probably in the minority, I never liked the TV programme

I like the lateral thinking, but I agree it lacks something as a Christmas window.

Yes, I agree with that 👍

This one made me laugh! Another of my childhood memories is of incessantly singing The Twelve Days of Christmas every year – there’s even a super cringy cassette recording of it somewhere. I couldn’t say “l”s properly, so the lords a leaping came out as “ten yords a yeaping”. Just awful!

I’d pay to hear that 😉. I’m surprised there weren’t more from The 12 Days of Christmas. I think this was the only one.

That’s certainly a unique interpretation! But fun too!

Yes, it’s different – but clever.

I recognized Mr. T right off. But I found it a strange context, to be sure! Clever.

Certainly a different portrayal of Five Gold Rings!

This one is clever and a bit different. I’d love to see a gallery of all the windows together at the end.

Good idea! Maybe I’ll do that.

Don’t remember that one either but I didn’t go down all the streets and in-shots as it was part of a larger night time walk through the wider area. Don’t think I posted mine either as other things grabbed my attention or I forgot.

We took the map and made sure we saw them all!

You sure hit on a novel interpretation for one of the days in the song.

Not quite as pretty as usual!

So are you going to recast the other 11 days as well?

This was the only one that used that song. It’s on again this year, so maybe there will be more (not been to see yet).

Definitely not the traditional image of 5 golden rings that I think of with this song! 😆

No indeed! I was surprised there weren’t more 12 Days of Christmas refs, this was the only one I think.

A lot of good imaginations in Scotstoun!

There was a lot of talent and creativity on display in Scotstoun. Mr. T would probably have loved these two windows.

I know, it was quite remarkable.

I had to look up Mr. T, and it seems he was famous for his gold jewelry and distinctive hairstyle. I had never heard of him!

For some reason, he lurked in my subconscious, but I had lo look him up to to be (nearly) sure.

Hi Anabel – thank goodness you told me it was Mr T – I can see it now … but my mind was else where … wonderful window stamps … have a chilly good weekend – Hilary
