Happy New Year!
Happy New Year, all the way from 1908!
On December 20th, 1907, the New Year card above was posted in Elizabeth, New Jersey, to the same Mrs Marrow of 12 Prospect Place, Woolwich, who received a Christmas card from Ethel in my last post. It reads:
Dear Ma
I hope you have got over Xmas alright. Very nice card you sent me only it should have been your photo instead of the girl. I am expecting a letter from you. Love to all, Will.
Will write Sun.
How sweet of him to want a picture of his Ma! The cards below, both unused, are also for 1908 and all come from Mum’s collection of old postcards which I feel might be a rich blogging seam for the future. And speaking of future, I wish you all the very best for 2022. May it be better for us all than 2021. See you next year!

As I said in my previous comment, I’m fascinated by old postcards, especially if they have a message written on them. I used to buy them quite regularly although stopped when I felt it was getting out of hand! I shared some of my favourites in a post a while back, which may interest you (but please feel free to ignore if not!) https://www.toonsarah-travels.blog/postcards-from-a-time-of-war/

I did find that interesting, thank you! I have never bought old postcards but have just taken possession of my late Mum’s collection which I need to go through to look for more gems.

Forgot to show the link https://joyfullplace.wordpress.com/2021/01/08/old-christmas-cards/ The oldest there is the first card, from Japan, dated 1970. (dates not shown in my post, my focus was on the face of the cards).
Again,, nice old card , nice post from you.

As a former New Yorker and still occasional visitor, I’ve driven through Elizabeth, New Jersey, plenty of times.
It’s always interesting to imagine the people who wrote old cards and letters.

Interesting! Makes it real (though driving through suggests there might not be much to stop for). I’ve been wondering why he went there, would be fascinating to know.

I’ve driven through on busy highways, so I don’t really know the town. I imagine it may have been charming in 1908, the year of the postcard, before much of that part of the state became so industrial.

You’re making me regret even more that I sent my old postcard album to the auctioneer before I moved.
They lost it. 😦

Oh no! How annoying. I don’t know what I’ll do with these, once I’ve gone through them and kept the ones I want. I know they can be quite collectible.

Given current events I think ‘Looking Forward to a better New Year’ might be more appropriate rather than ‘Happy’ as I’m hopeful it might be better than the one just gone. Got a long list of things I’ve had to put on hold for the last two so maybe third time lucky.
Traditional ‘Best wishes for 2022’ though.

Beautiful cards for New Year in the past – sadly modern cards will never be as lovely as these. It’s so nice that you found all these in your mum’s collection – definitely a good blogging theme and I’m looking forward to seeing some more. Happy New Year to you Anabel, I hope it’s a good one for you 🙂
