SquaresRenew 2: Birthday Boy
The day we travelled to Belfast was John’s birthday. When we got to our hotel room we were delighted by a surprise delivery of Prosecco (as he has a loyalty card for the hotel group they knew his date of birth). This was a lovely prelude to our meal in Nu Delhi, just around the corner.
It was a Monday evening and we were amazed by how busy the restaurant was – this was true of every night we were there. Belfast has a great food scene – you could say it was burgeoning, as were our waistlines with the amount of food we ate!
Part of Becky’s SquaresRenew Challenge, using images from our April 2024 trip to Northern Ireland to illustrate one or more of the following:
- Move forward
- Reconstruct
- Renew
- Burgeoning

A very belated happy birthday to John! Isn’t it great to enjoy a burgeoning food scene, and the burgeoning waists that result?! Love it. 🙂

Thanks Cathy! Sadly, the waistline is still burgeoning but I have definitely enjoyed the process of making that happen!

Mike said after our trip to Colombia that our vacations seem to be more and more about the food experiences. And because of that my waist is burgeoning as well. It’s so frustrating because Mike is tall and never puts on any weight and if he does, you can’t even tell. I can tell immediately because none of my pants fit. I’ve been investing in dresses this year to solve that dilemma!

Good idea! John has lost a lot of weight because of the cycling. But I hate cycling …

I don’t mind the downhills, but I really hate the uphills. Too bad that what goes down must go up!

Indeed! Walking’s the same, rarely flat.

That’s a nice touch on behalf of the hotel. The meal in the restaurant looks like it would have been great. We found the food in Ireland was great quality. Bernie

Belated birthday wishes to John! That was a lovely touch from the hotel. I’ve heard great things about the Belfast food scene. I move over to Belfast soon and already have a list of places to try. After almost give years of rural living, it will be a novelty to have so many options on the doorstep!

I was lucky enough to have several work trips there in the early 2000s. One of my fave places. (and peoples)

Happy Birthday to John…We were in Belfast in 2014 and loved the town. We didn’t have much time to really take in the city so we probably would need to go back one of these days…If it wasn’t so far for us!

I would love to go back too – and it’s a lot more likely for me! I felt very at home there, its character is very like Glasgow.

he looks well pleased! Happy birthday John. I am sure with all the cycling he does his waist will not burgeon (?) at all – unlike mine.

He is very disciplined and is keeping it in check. I on the other hand …

Hi Anabel – lovely square photo – he does look pleased with himself, and is obviously anticipating his burgeoning waistline – wanting more … happy days – and here’s to many more John – cheers to you both – Hilary

Thanks Hilary! I’m sure the manic cycling will sort out his burgeoning waistline. Mine will probably stay as it is.

It’s always a treat to have a birthday on holidays. It looks like John had a great day.

He did! Mind you, after we arrived we went straight out for a walk and got absolutely drenched! We had just about dried out before we went out again to dinner. Still, that was the worst soaking we got all holiday so can’t complain.

Very apt Anabel, it’s hard to believe the news about how bad everything is when a restaurant is packed on a weeknight

We were amazed! It’s not like that in Glasgow midweek.
