Canadian Rockies: Num-ti-ja Lodge

Our original intention was to drive straight from Banff to Jasper, but friends recommended Num-ti-jah Lodge so we stayed there for a couple of nights. The Lodge, about 25 miles north of Lake Louise, was built in 1920 by pioneer guide and outfitter Jimmy Simpson. He wanted it to be large but only had short timbers, hence the unusual octagonal shape. We loved it.
The evening we arrived, we went straight out onto the Bow Glacier Falls Trail which left from the Lodge’s parking lot. That worked up an appetite for dinner!
The following day we tackled the Helen Lake Trail. I always find it weird to be so high that I’m standing in snow, yet wearing a short-sleeved shirt.
Linked to Jo’s Monday Walks. After Num-ti-jah, we headed for the Icefields Parkway and Jasper, so there will be more Rockies walking from there next week.

Morning, Anabel! Seems appropriate that I’ve woken to snow 🙂 I almost missed this but spotted it in the nick of time. Often happens when I’m away. Many thanks for your company. Have a lovely week! 🙂

Morning Jo! No snow here, but we were out yesterday and you didn’t have to go very high to get into the snow. That might make it to a Monday walk some day.

Hi Anabel – it is stunning up there … Mum and I drove from Banff to Jasper in July – fine .. but it snowed and settled!!! Still loved the time we had … but I think a night in your hotel looks a great idea next time .. cheers Hilary

Hmm, snow (other than on the peaks) in July is not good! Bet it looked pretty though.

I have yet to see Jasper, Lake Louise and Banff. I know it is beautiful and am proud it is part of our country. These pictures are so beautiful. The waterfalls is amazing! The lodge looks unique-any pictures of the inside? One of my best friends is in these 3 places all summer. He is a tour guide and take a bus load of people to these 3 spots from, about May to Mid October. He is the one who talks to everyone on the bus while the driver drives. He makes sure all the luggage is delivered, dinners are good etc… So..he basically lives there and stays in the 5 star places. I want to join him once…with my hubby…he can tag along-lol

I suppose he has to work very hard for his 5 star lodging. No pictures of inside the Lodge I’m afraid. I can’t even remember what it was like now!

As strange as it can seem, we haven’t visited much of the Rockies yet. I have been briefly on a few business trips but never on vacation…It seems that we often don’t take time to visit our own country and in Canada, it is often the case as it is more expensive to fly within the country than flying to Europe…Lovely images. Thanks. With a country the size of Canada, I can see how that’s true!

Wonderful! I love that area of Canada. 🙂 I always find it odd to be in snow yet be wearing summer clothes. It seems like a magical experience, doesn’t it? That hike looks like fun, and so does that lodge. 🙂
