January Light: Street of Light
The Street of Light was a Christmas installation in Edinburgh a few years ago. I found several shots which lent themselves to the square format, but when I spotted the *Belisha beacon bottom right of this one it was the obvious choice – two different kinds of streetlight, and the beacon counts as lamplight too.
Part of Becky’s January Squares Challenge: words ending in light.
*Belisha beacon: an amber-coloured globe lamp on a black and white pole, marking pedestrian crossings. Named after Leslie Hore-Belisha (1893–1957), the Minister of Transport who introduced them in 1934.

That is just gorgeous!

I was sorry I missed that particular display as it looked impressive. That has to be one of the more unusual double barrelled names.

It was impressive. Yes, I might not have wanted to hang on to the first part of that name!

I have to admit that Edinburgh does Christmas with a lot more pizazz than Glasgow. This was spectacular.

The second best city in the world. And I say that despite having been born there.

John was born there too.

This is a lovely scene of those lights like a cathedral. I love it.

Brilliant photograph, and I learnt something too about the Belisha beacons. I knew they were named after someone but no idea as to who until today!

I had only the vaguest idea until today, so I thought I’d better provide an explanation for folk outside the UK who would have no idea at all!

Just asked MrB and of course he knew straight off! Suspect John would know too.

Wow!! Were they really all lights or was it a projection onto the building? Fantastic, whichever it was 🙂

It’s a temporary structure built in the middle of the road. If you have a ticket, you go inside and the lights all change colour and “dance” to music.
