April Squares: Ben Lomond

Today’s “top of the world” shot is another from 2005, this time taken on the summit of Ben Lomond. Looking at it, you would think it was summer. However, it was taken in March, just two weekends after yesterday’s post where I am wrapped up warmly against the wind.

You might also think that John has caught me in a moment of quiet solitude. However, here’s the same scene from a different angle (deliberately not squared):

It was very busy! Linked to Becky’s #SquareTops challenge.

  1. It’s all about perspective. I love that first shot; the views are so beautiful and you look very contemplative. Contemplating shouting at all the noisy folk behind you to shut up perhaps?

  2. When I was doing Munros years ago we met a guy from Dingwall who thought that was the best one he’d been up yet. To him that was the far south and he was delighted to see Loch Lomond and the islands for the first time. Said it was his favourite viewpoint in over a hundred summits.

  3. That many people on a steep hike always makes me anxious. I remember walking up one munro as a tween – can’t remember which – and the path was pretty narrow and near to the edge at one point and this whole group of Scouts came barrelling down the path and I was forced to step to the side and felt sure I was going to tumble all the way down the mountain as a result. I have disliked busy hiking paths and being on summits with too many folks since then.

    • I’m with you on that one. I have never had good balance, even as a youngster I had a habit of toppling backwards, and lived in fear of hordes of others pushing down towards me on mountain walks. Maybe that’s why I prefer to stick to the plains!

  4. Wow! you were not in solitude. Now, where you are sitting, it looks like there is a bit of grass and then…a huge drop. Is this incorrect? This could be another trick of the light. It is beautiful
