Advent Day 8: God Jul
On Christmas Eve 2019 we took a stroll to the nearby area of Scotstoun to view its Living Advent Calendar. Each evening in December, one more window had been illuminated. On the 24th, we got to see them all.
Number 8 – I heart Christmas / God Jul.

Ah, Santa and his reindeer on the roof. These are such fun and so clever. I’d love to know how they do them. Some kind of film that is stuck to the window?

I have looked at guidelines online for these window trails. They seem to involve a lot of tissue paper and tape! It would all be beyond me, I have no crafting skills at all.

Very cleverly done. I could never make anything that delicate without ripping it.

Do these people take some kind of class to learn how to create these beautiful displays?

The organising group on these window trails often provides guidance (this year by video only). There’s a lot of talent on display!

It’s a good idea to keep a post simple. Lovely decoration and “God Jul” is Merry Christmas in both Swedish and Danish

That’s interesting, I didn’t know it was the same in both languages. I wondered if a Danish family lived here. Thanks for visiting!

On many other occasions, our two languages have grown apart from each other

That is a great window and, I think, my favourite so far. It is quite detailed and peaceful looking.

I expect, given your craft work, you appreciate more than most how much work must have gone into it.

Hi Anabel – they’d still get the community spirit going wouldn’t they … and presumably via their FB group. The windows are quite delightful … and so clever to see … and cheering – take care -Hilary

Yes, up to a point. No carol singing events or other ways of coming together though.

Wow!
I seem to be saying that a lot. But these are so wonderful, so intricate.
What’s the organisation/history behind the Scotstoun Advent Calendar? Don’t tell me, you’ve posted about it in the past but I’ve forgotten.

I think I might have put one window in last December’s Gallivanting. We just spotted it on Facebook last year and went along on Christmas Eve when they were all lit up. Scotstoun is quite a compact community so it didn’t take long to find them all (they produce a map). Not sure how many years they’ve been doing it, but it must be good for drawing the neighbours together (less so this year for obvious reasons).
