WalkingSquares: out on the tiles

We were away last week, and when we got back I lost no time in walking up to the new bridge at Stockingfield to see what progress had been made in our absence. The main thing I noticed is that the base of the mast supporting the bridge is now decorated with some of the tiles made in community workshops led by ceramacist Louise Nolan. Here are some close ups – fabulous!

It’s a fabulous bridge, a really impressive new landmark

Hi Anabel – what a fun idea to add in the ceramic tiles – and great they’re involving the local community too … I’m looking forward to see more as and when new projects get up and running – cheers Hilary

Very nice. I remember thinking, viewed from a distance that the main spike sticking up would make a powerful weapon for impaling tripping giants if the need ever arises. Fortunately they all died out a long time ago.

I just love it when you find these kind of creative projects in a town. They bring such a sense of pride to a community.

They do! I can’t wait to find out what else is coming – there are about 8 projects altogether and I think I can see at least traces of 6.

what a brilliant idea. A walk here at night will be a much more sober and fabulous version of a ‘night on the tiles’

Somebody made a good decision to have local ceramicists decorate parts of the bridge. The artists probably appreciate that very much.

And it’s a great way of involving the community too. I’ve already seen pictures on social media of people identifying their own tiles.

It is! And there are other art projects going on too, so I think it will be even more amazing when it is completely finished.
