One Word Sunday: Yellow

Debbie’s One Word Sunday today is Yellow. In it, she features a piece of Glasgow street art which I have not seen before and now plan to look out for. She has also inspired me to do my own Yellow post, starting with the splendid yellow entrance to The Annexe in Partick – the mosaic two to the right from the door is a yellow sunflower, so double whammy there. A couple more yellow doors from Glasgow’s West End:
Some Glasgow street art:
Those who read my March Gallivanting post might remember the Glasgow Penguins. Mama Penguin must have very green fingers to have grown a beautiful yellow sunflower this early in the year! Here she is with some genuine spring flowers:
Lastly, our recent trip to Amsterdam yielded some good splashes of yellow:
Happy Easter Sunday!

I’m not receiving emails when you post any more, whether that’s to do with my absence from WP or from the fact that my computer was hacked and it had to have a ‘deep clean’ by the makers and that has removed some contacts. Glad to have made contact again, and this yellow post is brilliant, really cheerful. Have you posted about the Netherlands? I can’t see it so far.

Thanks, Mari! Good to see you about again. I haven’t posted about the Netherlands yet, in fact my posts have been quite infrequent and I’m still catching up with last summer’s holiday!

Hi Anabel – these are fun … and I’m so pleased to see a few of your Amsterdam photos … Yellow – we could do with a little more of that down here! But it is coming – as sure as eggs will have a yolk! Cheers Hilary

It’s a nice cheerful colour, isn’t it? And I was pleased with the variety I managed to find without looking too hard.

Some great yellows, Annabel. I’d have thought these and tulips for Amsterdam so you surprised me with such variety.
And the emotion street art was a fun mural I saw on my recent trip. 🙂

Thanks Debbie! I guess you were exploring Byres Rd then! Definitely the place to be seen, in my totally non-biased opinion.

I always think yellow is such a happy colour. I like the clogs and the Ruthven Lane street art and love that the penguins live in a wall by the river – I’m sure someone could write a children’s story about them 🙂

P.S – I don’t know if you ever read The Unlikely Pilgrimage Of Harold Fry after I reviewed it on my blog three years back but if you’re interested it has now been made into a film which hits the cinemas on April 28th. Apparently filmed in the locations mentioned in the book, if it follows the story properly it should be a good film 🙂

I haven’t, it’s still on my list along with many, many others! I don’t know why not because I’ve read another Rachel Joyce, The Music Shop, and enjoyed it. I saw someone else recommend Harold Fry recently, can’t remember who, but they didn’t mention the film. I’ve just looked it up – Jim Broadbent and Penelope Wilton, great cast, you are right, should be good.

It always makes me feel bright! I think somebody is sort of making a story about the penguins, though not necessarily in book form. They keep changing!

I liked all the interesting yellow photographs but I have to say that I am astonished in that I never knew penguins had such gardening skills. I would offer mama penguin a job but the heat here would probably be too much for her – 43c is sometimes too much for me!

They are quite amazing little creatures, these mini-penguins! All sorts of skills you wouldn’t expect.

Very colourful. I liked those mosaic tiles in Partick last time I visited. The rest I have not seen apart from the penguin and sunflower. Was there this Friday down in the gorge….. following in your footsteps/ flippers.

You were lucky to see the penguins – they disappeared earlier this week but have now returned. Not sure if it was genuine or a constructed social media drama! I can assure you I do not have flippers 😀.

Unusual to find yellow doors.

I thought so too. I like the fairytale look of the one in the hedge, but boringly it’s just another tenement building.

Wonderful. The klompen have to be yellow! But I’m sure when orange would be the color of choice, Holland will offer a lot of that, too. 🙂

So the clogs are called klompen! What a wonderful onomatopoeic word.

Yes, klompen in Dutch. I forgot what they were called in English, so used my word, haha. Easy to understand why they’re called that., right?

Love the yellow. Embarrassed to say I was at Stirling Castle yesterday. I have over 100 photos – but missed the daffs

Yes, I think that’s where the ‘unicorns’ were yesterday. Just writing a piece on that now 😁

Yes, there were unicorns there too. Perhaps the flowers have changed now, this was a few weeks ago.

I don’t know if the individual penguins have names – they are just The Glasgow Penguins and live in a wall by the river!
