January Light: lighthouse

Becky’s January Squares challenge is words ending in light, so you might think lighthouse doesn’t qualify. I was going to include a lighthouse anyway – I like them! – under the category of a special kind of lamplight, then Kaz came up with the concept of guiding-light. Perfect! This guiding–light is on the Firth of Clyde at Port Glasgow. Tomorrow’s post is a variation on the theme.

Brrrrrr. It looks rather chilly there, but beautiful.

This is such a peaceful picture with the lighthouse in the middle of the water. I never saw a lighthouse in the middle of the water before…was it always like that?

It’s always been like that. There’s another lighthouse on shore – possibly the river channel is shallow here, or there are rocks, and they near an extra beacon for guidance.

Nice shot! I especially like the long rippling reflection in the still water.

It was a dreary day, but it made for atmospheric photographs.

Our lighthouse is about 40 klms away and since it is still a working (automatic) lighthouse, we can’t go into it. I would love to go to the top of it – I think the view over the Gulf and back to the town would be fantastic.

Yes, that sounds good. I find lighthouses fascinating.

I like lighthouses too, especially those you can go in and up to the top. I like the pattern on the outside of this one, certainly different to the usual red and white horizontal stripes 🙂

It’s unusual – there’s another lighthouse on land a short distance away, and it’s the same, though taller and thinner.

Anabel,
Mary and I like lighthouses, too – very much so. We hope to be able to some time stay in one that has been converted to a B&B. I understand the National Trust rents out some.
Have a great weekend,

We once stayed in one that had been turned into a hotel. A very strangely shaped room!
