Magnolia Plantation and Audubon Swamp Gardens
There are several plantations around Charleston and we picked this one to visit on our way over from Savannah. We were so glad we did. You can make up a combination ticket from various options and we chose to visit the house and gardens and the swamp garden. It was all so beautiful – see a selection of images below, and I’m keeping the best bit for a post all of its own!
Planations for me are shrouded with negativity.
I do love the architecture of the main house, beautiful. I have never had a desire to do much travel through America. Our trip from New York to New Orleans was an eye-opener, to say the least!

It doesn’t do to look at them with any form of romanticism. It’s a big discussion here at the moment with the National Trust wanting to put its property histories into their proper context (many founded on the profits of slavery) and our despicable government pushing back.

I think the dominant cultures all around the world are under the spotlight and have been for many a year. Yes, all have a dark side if you look hard enough. The problem with the American one is that most of us growing up only viewed what we saw via movies and a one sided history lesson.
