Travels with #WoolleyLamb

In August / September we took a US road trip during which I added four new states to my tally – Colorado, Wyoming, Idaho and Montana. One of those was unexpected. We also gained a new travelling companion – meet Woolley Lamb! Our first night was spent near Denver International Airport in Woolley’s Classic Suites (highly recommended) where we met Woolley. Staff suggest you take him with you, then post photos of where he’s been. While his friends played about pretending they were at the Olympics…
… Woolley came with us to:
The Snowy Range, WY:
The Wind River Range, WY:
Grand Teton National Park, WY, where he needed a bit of help not to blow away:
Mesa Nature Trail, ID:
Yellowstone National Park, WY:
The Montana State Line. This is claimed to be the highest State welcome sign in the US – and it marks the 45th Parallel too, so we were exactly half way between the North Pole and the Equator:
Rocky Mountain National Park, CO:
Mile High City – Denver, CO, where, on the thirteenth step of the State Capitol, Woolley was exactly one mile above sea-level:
What now? I have been frantically sorting through hundreds of photographs and a huge pile of information leaflets so that I can blog about our road-trip. Woolley, on the other hand, has been relaxing in a corner of the sofa.
However, he needn’t get too comfortable! We have plans for him – maybe he will meet some of his Scottish cousins on a country walk and we can send the pictures back to the hotel. In the meantime, blogging proper on our trip begins next week.
Hope to see you then!

The travelling lamb! I would love to travel with this little guy.

Thanks Lisa. Poor Woolley has been confined to barracks since we got back -we’ve been too busy to have any day trips! Hope that changes soon 🙂

Loved our road trip to Yellowstone, even though it was freezing cold and thick with snow and ice a lot of the way, and that was the end of May. I’d love to go back in summer. Woolley is so cute and very pampered by the look of it. 😅

It was cold in the mornings when we were there (end August) with iced-up windscreens a couple of times, but it soon warmed up.

Looks a great trip. The Wind River Range and the Tetons always feature in old westerns including True Grit, which is mainly how I’ve seen them.

I didn’t realise that! Tetons, yes, but I hadn’t heard of the Wind River Range.

The scenery is stunning. I suspect there might be the odd bear or two in that park.

There are bears – but we never saw any at all! John was quite disappointed. I was less disappointed!

I thought you were being quiet, but since I was away from home too (though not in such exotic surroundings) I haven’t been visiting many blogs. I am quite envious because you have been to all the places that I want to visit in the US. In fact we should have been going to Denver ourselves this month – had the OH written a paper for a conference there, but he declined 😦
Looks like Woolley had a great time – he’ll have bragging rights! Jasper and Justin Beaver will be sooo jealous 😀

How very uncooperative of OH! We liked Denver, sometimes when we visit a city at the end of a hiking trip we get overwhelmed. Too many people! Too much traffic! But Denver is very easy to walk around. Fabulous Botanic Garden you would love too.

I’m thinking my recent travel around the UK will last me the whole of winter! Which is just as well if the weather is too bad to get out and take new photos.

Looking forward to reading about this one very much! We did a similar trip years ago to those states (not Idaho) and loved it. It was pre digital photos though and ours all look a bit faded these days!

I love Woolley Lamb, he looks really sweet. Do you have to send him back to the hotel or can you keep him?
A children’s nursery where I worked a few years ago had a bear and any child going on holiday was allowed to take it with them and take photos of it in different places but they always had to return it to the nursery afterwards.

No, we get to keep him – everyone was given one (if they wanted it). It’s good publicity for them I guess. Great idea about the nursery – a collection of the bear’s “holidays” could teach children so much about other places.
