January Light: Scott Monument

For Day 5 of January Light, it’s over to Edinburgh where the spotlight is on this statue to Walter Scott, part of the eponymous monument on Princes Street. Pop over to Becky’s blog for all the info on her square photo challenge: words ending in light.

Next time we go to Edinburgh I’ll look out for him.

I love this monument! So striking, like many things in Edinburgh. 🙂

Great shot Annabel, walked past that several times and always stop and admire it. Impressive statue and great photo.

Thanks Jonno! The shot was John’s, but the brilliant editing was mine 😉.

I’m catching up with everyone’s challenge posts and I have to say how clever you all are with your interpretations. Nice one Anabel. 😍

Thanks! I’m finding it interesting too seeing what others come up with (and might just be borrowing a few ideas!)

I thought it was going to be up the Scott Monument. Well worth a couple of quid to squeeze up and down the ever narrowing staircase to the top. That last squeeze always makes me laugh, it’s so mad if you meet someone midway and they attempt to get past rather than waiting.

We have been up a few times, but not for a while. There are always some too impatient to wait!

A wonderful dramatic moody shot. Well done the two of you 😊

A sad looking chap, isn’t he? I seem to remember it’s wired off at the top because of potential suicides. Great capture though! 🙂 🙂

He is rather! It’s probably lonely and cold sat in that old monument.

It’s while since I’ve seen this – which reminds me I need to visit Edinburgh again before too long. 🙂

At a quietish time I suggest! This was just before the Christmas madness started.

I was planning to climb to the top of this monument when I was in Scotland. But it was under repair. Next time!

WP still won’t let me *like* posts, so just consider this one *liked* 🙂 John did a great job of capturing the light … something I tend to get mixed results with.

Really, how bizarre! WP can be so annoying sometimes. Thanks for the compliment to my photographer’s skills. I’ll keep on employing him, I think.

ooh I like your spotlight . . I have a spotlight on a plinth planned for later in the month, but mine isn’t as splendid as yours.

Thanks Kev! I confess John took this one, but I did the editing and repositioning so I hope Becky will be forgiving.

It’s rather fine anyway though I’m sure the editing and repositioning made all the difference.

It was the editing that made it what it is 😉

PS and if John is reading this, then of course it was the original photography that makes it!!

Of course! There will be a mixture of both, so you can take it as read that the best ones are John’s.
