April Squares: Calgary Tower
In the first few days of Becky’s #SquareTops challenge I looked at various places in the US where we felt on top of the world. Now it’s time to move to Canada and our Rockies trip of 2017. We flew into Calgary and climbed the Calgary Tower soon after we arrived. These are my feet as I stand at the very top, looking down through a rather scary glass window. My knees feel quite wobbly remembering this!

Love this! Great photo!

I absolutely couldn’t do that….even your photo made me nervous!

I seem to have made a few people nervous, I’m sorry!

I have stood on the glass floor of the CN Tower in Toronto, which was quite terrifying. However, the glass was scratched so it didn’t give quite the same effect as your Calgary Tower photo. Excellent shot.

Thanks. We’ve been up the CN Tower too, but don’t have any pictures like this one.

I’d definitely get the wobbles initially! Brilliant shot .. .I’ve only been to Calgary once, and didn’t think we did anything here apart from arrive, but a new suitcase and head off into the Rockies. However your pic is bringing back memories (and wobbles!)

We’ve landed there twice now. I don’t remember doing anything the first time so maybe the plane arrived later. This time we had the afternoon – don’t like hiring a car the day we arrive, a good sleep is required!

Agree on the sleep . . and definitely a bonus to have time to explore a little bit. I’ll have to ask mum if it was this tower. I know there was a tower somewhere on our trip!!

I love glass floors like this. What a great view down to the street.

Funny how being able to see below our feet like that will give us the wobblies when being on that New River Bridge probably wouldn’t. My wobbliest knees experience was my first hot air balloon ride.

Yes, our brain tells us we’re not safe when we really are. I’ve been in a balloon once and didn’t find it that way, different things affect different people I suppose.

It may have just been excitement. I got over it quickly enough.

Yikes! I don’t normally avoid heights but that would have given me a bit of a scare… but I probably would have talked myself into it just for the photo 🙂

You just ah e to tell yourself the effect is purely psychological. I didn’t linger long though!

A small hint to remove the glass reflections when taking photographs through glass is to place the lenses straight onto the glass. Perhaps more appropriate for phone cameras.

Actually, that does give me the collywobbles, the thought of getting that close to the glass!

Yes, I can understand that. Though very useful when taking images of fish or reptiles behind glass.

Crikey, that looks the highest viewpoint you have shared so far.

You’re braver than me. It took several attempts and my son’s embarrassed prompting for me to walk on the glass floor in Auckland’s Sky Tower.

There is something daunting, I agree, but – you take a step and nothing happens! Except wobbly knees.

I went to the Calgary Tower years ago and remember walking over the glass floor…you do miss a few beats as you look down but it is an amazing experience. Take care. (Suzanne)

It is! You just have to have faith it’s strong enough.

Agree. I don’t know if you have been to Toronto but the CN Tower also has a glass floor and it is even more dizzying as the tower is higher. You certainly don’t have to suffer from vertigo as otherwise it is impossible to walk on the glass…

Yes, we were there the year before. I remember!

Well, I may not be slimline, but I guessed there had been heavier people than me on that glass so it must be quite strong!

Given all that – I still think it was pretty brave. I think I would give it a miss.
