April Squares: Castle Hill
We’re back home in Scotland now for my tour of some of our “top of the world” spots. This is Castle Hill, site of an Iron Age fort and part of a circular walk taking in sections of the Antonine Wall – follow the link for the full route. We’ve done the walk several times over the years: this happy shot is from 2015.
Part of Becky’s #SquareTops challenge.

This looks so pretty.I love the small town in the distance

I think that’s Kilsyth.

I love the Antonine Wall! I haven’t done the full circular walk, but we used to play on Bar Hill near Auchinstarry when I was little.

We took in Bar Hill as well, starting at Auchinstarry. It’s a nice walk which I would like to repeat once this is over.

I am definitely looking forward to getting out walking more once this whole situation is over!

Your hair stands up to the windy weather very well, Anabel. It looks very bracing up there.

Ha ha – trouble isn’t, it doesn’t then lie down again!

I was also noticing you must have been taking quite the headwind there. You do look pleased, though.

The wind is obviously exhilarating!

At least I’m not being traumatised by the sight of you atop a rocky outcrop with a sheer drop behind you, although if you took a step backwards there you might disappear.

As far as I can remember there was a nice safe path just there – no danger at all!

I know! I actually don’t have as many as I thought to come. A few cairns though.

Ah, the good old Antonine Wall – the forgotten wall I always think. I grew up very near a portion of it and thought it was quite normal to have some Roman remains in the town. 🙂

Yes, not many people have heard of it, much less famous than Hadrian’s (which I grew up near).
