Square Odds: pet project

For my second foray into Becky’s Square Odds challenge I’ve dredged up some pet-related oddities. Odd signs, odd puns, and a very odd orange fence which I always think looks like a row of surprised cats. Do you agree?
By the way, Eilean Fraoich means Heather Isle in Gaelic. Here it’s a house name, but it’s also a song. I had planned to include some music from the Pet Shop Boys, or possibly from the Beach Boys’ Pet Sounds, but have decided to go with Eilean Fraoich instead. This version is accompanied by some beautiful scenery from the Isle of Lewis where we are off to this summer. Can hardly wait!

Hi Anabel – the Slow Crossing is wonderful to see – brilliant idea. Your selection of the Isle of Lewis music is a delight to listen to and to see the scenery … it’ll be a great holiday – cheers Hilary

I’m jealous about Lewis. We loved travelling from Harris, south through the Hebredies a few years ago. Hope you’re there for the machair

We’ve been to Lewis on both our Hebridean odysseys, but only for a couple of nights in Stornoway when we got off the ferry. This time, we have booked a cottage for a week so it will be good to get a more in-depth view.

enjoy; I’ve just gone to revisit some of the posts from our holiday – it was 2015. I had no idea it was so long ago; I wasn’t even shaving then.

Isn’t it lovely to have a holiday to look forward to. And yours will be beautiful judging by that glorious scenery. I do love the orange fence. That’s a bit of fun. And I’m glad there is an exclamation mark after the word slow in that first sign. We saw a sign in a caravan park once which read “Slow children crossing”
It’s all about the punctuation. 🙂

We have been threatened with not only Slow Sheep, but Danger Sheep in the past! Fortunately we only met the slow ones, not the dangers.

Loved the music and have just sent it to my friend who is rediscovering her Scottish roots and spent two weeks in Scotland learning Gaelic last year and is studying furiously still.

Getting somewhere in July was already quite difficult so get your skates on!

I usually stay at home during the summer to enjoy the garden. April, May and September/October are OK. But yes, it could be another difficult year.

I can’t imagine a whole housing estate surrounded by surprised orange cat fencing. How very odd! 😅 Love the cats at play sign.

It’s quite a small one, and you only see the surprised cats if you cut through the back lanes, but still – they are definitely an odd sight!

The music is so pretty and it goes well with some of your images. I do like these cat photos and that fence do look like a couple of cats.

We’ve been going a bit mad and actually have another three short breaks booked before Lewis! So not counting down to that one yet.

Not terribly adventurous, all in Scotland, but it’s nice to be able to do it after being restricted so long.

Not as good as the place we stayed once where the roadside notices said “Slow sheep” and “Danger sheep”. We hoped we didn’t meet the dangers!

I love the cats crossing sign and the name on that front door – it could almost describe one of my two cats. The orange fence does look like a couple of surprised cats, it would make me smile every time I saw it 🙂

There’s a whole housing estate with those orange fences at the back! Unfortunately, only two sections fit into a square. They always make me smile too.

I’m off to Dorset in May. It’s the next county, but my drive to the peak district last October put me off anything further afield (apart from the Isle of Wight, and the cottage I wanted there was fully booked till November.)
Looking forward to your Lewis pictures!!
