Seven gates

A mild obsession with railings and fences, as documented last Sunday, inevitably ended up being a gateway drug to – you’ve guessed it –gates. This was intensified when I discovered the hashtags #ThursGate and #LoveGates on Twitter. I am not alone!
In this week’s collection I have ranged over all four constituent countries of the UK with a foray into the Republic of Ireland.

Linked to Becky’s Squares challenge, SevenForSeptember. I’m posting collections of seven every seven days, on the seventh day of the week. See you next Sunday!

Wow, these gates are amazing! Thanks for sharing!

Wonderful gates! A friend of mine as an ornate garden gate made by her husband… Even if I can never remember the house number, I always recognise the gate.

Very handily distinctive then!

I did like those gates! And if someone failed to shut the last one, how did they know who did it and where to send the bill?

Your gate post might make me take more notice of gates! I like the red North Shields Gate and the shadow gate. 😊

There are some really great ones out there, both urban and in the country, though the latter tend not to square very well!

I love the red gate! I think I’d leave that last one open just because… 🙂

I have a thing for benches, Anabel, but you have brought me over to gates with these great gate pics! I especially love the one with the shadows. Nice!!!

Thank you! I’m a bench fan too – my repertoire is expanding to all sorts of inanimate objects.

Those are all such interesting gates, Anabel. And I would definitely lock the gate as requested! ❤

Areen’t they fabulous! And I’m glad you would comply – wouldn’t want you losing 40 shillings. (£2, or 3.5 Canadian dollars I believe).

What a great variety of gates, all interesting and attractive in their own way! I love the shadow from Stirling and the bright red of the gates in North Shields, while the last one made me smile 😀

The variety is quite something Just a small portion of my collection.

Oh, Anabel, what a splendid collection. I wish now we’d gone to Wrexham in August whilst Doing our Duties in Shropshire.

We really just came off the main road looking for somewhere for lunch on our way between cottages, but found St Giles a definite bonus visit.

It is, and I love the wheels on the top. It’s near the railway so I suspect that is what they represent.

Forty shillings is serious money. What was through there?

A hut, basically! I’m not sure if this is a real old sign transferred from elsewhere or a spoof.

Great photos of some different and amazing gates. They certainly make you think about gates …what’s behind them especially the red one?!

Thanks – the red one was very determined not to leave any chinks to look through!

Some amazing gates there. I like the shadow one…. very artistic and the Donegal one looks familiar as I’ve hill walked around that area decades ago in the past. Not totally certain though as I’ve seen a few gate posts like that in Scotland since then. Bob. BSS.

The shadow gate seems popular! The Donegal one was one of, I think, three nearby similarly topped with stags.

It seems you are not alone! It actually does look nicer that way. It’s green and slightly shabby otherwise.

I was quite pleased with that one. I found it hard to photograph the gate without the shadow making it look muddled so tried just the shadow and liked it much better.

I love gates too – from the plainest to the most ornate – so I have particularly enjoyed seeing these photographs.

A great selection Anabel, I always like to see a fancy gate or two whenever I’m out and about. I love the Wrexham and Belfast ones and the very blunt notice on the last one made me smile 🙂
