Simply Red: Postal Edition

When Becky announced that the theme of her July Squares challenge was to be Simply Red one of my first thoughts was my vast collection of post box pictures. Not all are suitable for squaring, but a surprising number are, especially those which show the box as part of a wider scene. Here is a gallery with a mixture of pillar boxes, wall boxes and lamp boxes with a bonus Post Office van.
Finally, here are a couple of toppers from London and Wales.
And I couldn’t have planned this better if I had tried. This is my 1000th post – a real Red Letter Day!

Nice collection of red postal box and congratulations on your 1000 post.

No individual favourites this time as my favourite colour is red so I like them all. Well done on the 1000th post, I’m only on 705 so a long way to go yet.

Thanks Eunice, red has always been my favourite colour too. There is a picture of me aged 2 or 3 in a wee red raincoat, and to this day my rain jackets are nearly always red! It’s taken me 14 years to get to 1000. I wonder if I’ll still be blogging in another 14 years?

I started the ‘mousehouse’ blog in October 2016, at the rate I’m going and at a rough guess it may be another 4 years before I hit 1000.

Not too different then. If I take 14 years to get to 2000 I’ll be 82 and maybe won’t have much to write about! That’s a terrifying thought.

congrats on the 1000. Red is such a dominant colour, especially when surrounded by grey or green

Thanks Pauline. A splash of red certainly adds to any photo I think.

That’s too funny! It’s a red letter day for sure. I love the symmetrical red building in that first post and the phone box gives you mega bonus points!!

Thanks Bernie! That first one is a very cute little post office / tea room combination. I think we indulged. I also like the one with the phone box and, although you probably can’t make it out in this image, a finger post sign with a crown on top!

Oh yes, I see that crown after I made the picture bigger. Good capture.

Congratulations on the 1000 post milestone. And what a great gallery of post boxes. I have another one coming up soon, from South Georgia. I do love the toppers. We don’t have them here, our post boxes are not the right shape.

Your ‘anniversary’ prompted me to look, and I find that I will be reaching fifteen years from my first post in a couple of days. I had no plan to keep going for so many years when I started, but I have got habituated to posting now.

Excellent. You’ve managed a far greater variety of postboxes than I had i my post. I’m off to Beamish on Tuesday on a Photo Club outing, so I’ll have to look out for that one. Congratulations on your 1000th post!

You sure love red boxes, Anabel! Good thing you are in the UK, where red seems to have a dominant presence. 🙂

I got interested in post boxes when I got interested in the Suffragettes who poured ink into them as part of their protest. At first it was just the old ones that they might have used, now I like them all! A splash of red can make a photo.

Another great idea for a theme! I especially liked the more remote rural scenes in Cumbria and Yorkshire, plus Beamish of course 😀 And congratulations on your 1,000th post 🥂

Thanks Sarah! I like a post box with a view. Or a view with a post box. The Beamish one only just makes it into the picture but I thought it worth including.

Under comments on the dashboard – it should have a section for spam. I’ll try commenting on a different device tomorrow though I’m not sure that will fool it!
