Post boxes of Malta
While I sort through the hundreds of photos from our recent trip to Malta I’m sharing a few posts with snapshots of generic themes that I like to look out for. Because of Malta’s past as part of the British Empire its red post boxes looked very familiar. The first few shown below I also photographed with their backgrounds, while the last gallery shows some in isolation.

These themes have given a mere flavour of Malta – now on to the main event, our walks and visits.

I’m looking forward to seeing more of your travels in Malta.

We loved our visit to Malta years ago. Can’t say I remember the red mailboxes but they are very pretty. (Suzanne)

They are quite striking to a British visitor!

Such iconic shots. The Valletta one could be a postcard. 🙂

It seemed so odd just stuck in the middle of the street. It definitely added character to the view downhill.

It’s funny how you can go to places like that or Italy with unpainted old walls, some even crumbling, that here might be a slum but there looks OK. Must be the sunny warm climate as I’ve often noticed that effect. A kind of faded romantic grandeur in some old European towns. Bob. BSS.

I agree – sunshine makes everything look better! And if buildings get dilapidated here you get water ingress and staining – not pretty.

Yes, they are all positioned nicely, whether showing a streetscape or dilapidated walls worthy of Sue!

The views of Malta make it look like a wonderful place for a holiday. The red post boxes just seem to set it all off especially the variety of them. Good to check out their ages against the monarchs !

It really was a great place for a bit of spring sunshine, nice walking, and a lot of history.

I know, fabulous! I love the way it stands right in the middle at the top of the hill with the view falling away behind it.

Ah, spotted ER in Mdina

I understood stone! Yes, they do look splendid. You spotted ER – the one I see missing is EVII, though the pillar box at the end looks the right sort of era. It just has no insignia. I assume the blocky red one is post independence.

The Valletta one is quite striking- such a Mediterranean street, such a typically British sight!

I do like a nice red post box, especially ones in unexpected places. The panels in that grey front door remind me of a very glum face, and I see the G R one was made in Scotland. Favourite is the last one though, I like the view down the street.

I see what you mean about the face, I hadn’t noticed that! The last one is my favourite too – I love how it just stands right in the middle at the top of the hill.

I know! I suppose these things are made to last a very long time so not worth changing.
