V is for Vientiane
L is for Luang Prabang covered some of our trip to Laos in 2002. On either side of that visit, we stayed in Vientiane, the Lao capital. It’s set on a bend of the Mekong River and, like Luang Prabang, has many old temples.
The other place we stayed in Laos was Vang Vieng, a much smaller place on the Nam Song. As it also begins with V, I’ll include it. We travelled around by (very) small boats and tuk-tuks, and stayed in small bungalows by the river. Lovely!
I just took a quick hop through your 2002 tour to see if you’d ever visited Cambodia where we are now, but it doesn’t appear so. We were hoping to head to Laos but it appears that we’ve picked the wrong time of year and that the rainy season may preclude our trip. I am more disappointed than ever now that I’ve seen your photos. Maybe I can squeeze it in when I travel solo in October.

It’s probably quite odd that we have been to Laos but not Cambodia or Vietnam. I would love to go back to that part of the world though.
