Sculpture Court
Hunterian Art Gallery Sculpture Court, University of Glasgow:
Left: Lantern and finial from Pettigrew and Stephen’s Glasgow Warehouse c. 1896. Designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh, 1868-1928. University Library tower in the background.
Top right: Tools for the Shaman, 1996. Made by Jake Harvey, b. 1948.
Bottom right: Rio, 1964-5. Made by Sir Eduardo Paolozzi, 1924-2005.
I liked the Rio sculpture the best, too. It’s fascinating with all its pieces and parts.

It is fascinating – but the Mackintosh photo is going to be some practical use today so it’s now officially my favourite! I’m a tour guide on a women’s history walk today which passes the site of Pettigrew and Stephens, where many 19th century ladies would have shopped. We have a drawing of the building to show, and now a photograph too.

My favorite is Rio. I’m not sure why but it seems to be something that would fit into a story about a boy.

My husband liked that one a lot and took some close-ups of different sections. He’s an engineer so I can see why he was intrigued.

Of course I like the lantern the best. I am not one for modern art but I see the intention in these works.

Me too, but the overall impression of the Court (there were more sculptures than we photographed) with the grey gravel and the Library tower in the background was impressive.
