April Squares: Forth Bridge
Todays post is a flashback to September 2017 when we ascended to the viewing platform on top of the Forth Bridge as part of a charity event. Below is the “official” photograph of us to prove we were there. I can’t crop that, because it would spoil it, but we do look as though we have that “top of the world” feeling.
Linked to Becky’s #SquareTops challenge. I suggest you pop over today to wish her happy birthday!

One of these day I want to do this!

One day they will have a proper visitor centre up there. Till then, you’ll need to time it with a charity event!

That’s one place they should open up for tourist groups like the Sydney Harbour Bridge tours. Missing a trick there. I was all set to go up The University of Glasgow spire when it briefly opened for visitors then they pulled the plug on it for some reason, probably health and safety related.

They have been talking about opening up the bridge for ages, and I think a planning application went in last year, but of course everything like that has been overtaken by events.

I have no head for heights, but I would love to experience that view. Maybe one day if it is open to the public.

The view is pretty special.

With my liking for climbing various towers and lighthouses this would be just up my street 🙂 I’d love to do the Sydney harbour bridge but sadly I’m never likely to ever get to Australia to do it 😦

Yes, it probably would be right up your street! It was an amazing experience.

No scree to negotiate to get up there 🤣

Like others, I didn’t know one could have access to the Forth Bridge. I’m sure it was a wonderful experience. I did the Sydney Bridge when I was there (and my head for heights was OK) but the Forth looks more ‘doable’. Lovely picture of you and John.

It was great, Mari. I hope they get the proposed visitor centre off the ground (ha!) after all this is over. I’m sure it would be very successful.

Getting that roller coaster feeling again looking at this one. You really do have a head for heights and a sense of adventure!

It definitely looks like a rollercoaster behind us! I’m fine with heights, but I can’t do rollercoasters. I hate that sudden dropping feeling.

I’d like to be up there, too, and at the same time not as I don’t really like those heights.

It felt quite safe, Pit, and the view was great!

I’m certain about the view, and that is why I’d probably still go up there if I had the chance.

It was, definitely. We were lucky to have the opportunity (tickets went quite fast).

I love the simple gesture of hubby holding your hand. I think it makes the photo extra special 🙂

Yes, I like that, I think we did it instinctively. Some might say we look as though we are clinging to the rail for security!

Hahaha! That’s not the way I interpreted it 😊

That’s another great photo of you two – I wish Marcus and I had as many together, but we’re not keen on asking people to take our photo (though I know you didn’t have to on this occasion since it was a charity event)!

We don’t have that many, and it’s usually when someone has asked us to take a photograph of them and they take one of us in return. They’re not usually as successful as this one which was taken by a professional!

ooh how amazing, was this when they were doing loads of work on it or is this something you can actually do every year?

Barnardo’s runs it every year (also an abseil which I don’t think I’ll be taking part in), and I assume other charities do too. There has been talk for years about proper visitor access and I think planning permission has been applied for, but obviously nothing is likely to happen any time soon.

Hmmm I’ll have to investigate….maybe a 2022 trip!

Oh wow! Love this bridge. I didn’t know you could go to the top. Putting it on my list for next trip. Hubby isn’t so keen. Too bad. I’ll go on my own … as I did in Sydney and Brisbane.

At the moment you can only go as part of a specific event like this one. There have been plans for a proper walkway and visitor platform for years, but nothing has come of it yet, and of course everything will have been setback by recent events. We’ve done the Sydney one too and enjoyed it.
