M is for Macau

Macau, like Hong Kong, is a Special Administrative Region of China but with a much more Latin feel from its time as a Portuguese enclave. We went there on a day trip by ferry from Hong Kong in 2002 and noticed a huge difference between the two. If we went back now, we’d find the place much changed – already famous for its casinos when we were there, it has since acquired many more as owners from Las Vegas entered the market. I have no interest in gambling – I think, if I’m remembering correctly, we had dinner in a casino restaurant which was the nearest we got!

  2. I also didn’t have enough time to visit Macau when I was in Hong Kong, but I really want to. I’m interested in seeing the city with the portuguese influence.

    • Yes, it’s really quite strange to have Chinese temples and very European churches together. But fascinating!

Thanks for visiting. I’ve just been checking out your blog and love the practicality of it. The downloads for kids to keep track of their travels are great.

    • I’d be interested to see the changes the last 12 years have brought, but there are so many things to do in Hong Kong I’m not sure I’d spare a day again. Last went to HK about 6 years ago, so I feel due a return visit too!
